CAD Design & CNC Programmer
Job Description

As a CAD Design & CNC Programmer, you will play a key role in developing tooling and machining processes used to produce metal stampings. This position bridges design and manufacturing—working from customer prints through tooling design, programming, and production support. You will also play an important role in improving how we design, program, and build tooling across the organization.

Core Responsibilities

  • Create tooling designs and detailed drawings using SolidWorks
  • Develop CNC and Wire EDM programs using CAD/CAM software
  • Interpret customer prints and translate them into manufacturable tooling and processes
  • Collaborate with estimating, tooling, and production to support new and existing jobs
  • Support the transition and continued development of design and programming systems
  • Set up, prove out, and refine programs to ensure quality and efficiency
  • Verify part quality through measurement and inspection to ensure conformance with specifications
  • Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to maintain quality and performance
  • Troubleshoot tooling and machining issues and implement improvements

Advanced Responsibilities (Level II–III)

  • Optimize machining strategies, feeds/speeds, and tooling performance
  • Lead new tool builds and process development
  • Train and support operators and team members
  • Drive continuous improvement across design and programming workflows

Specifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing, tooling, CNC programming, or CAD design preferred
  • Open to candidates with a strong CAD/CAM foundation who can work independently and continue developing their skills

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (required)
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (CamWorks or similar preferred)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Understanding of CNC machining and tooling concepts
  • Basic knowledge of G-code and machine controls is a plus
  • Heat treat (HT) knowledge is helpful but not required
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
